Oden doesn't take workout lightly
Greg Oden admitted he was out of breath after his workout for the Portland Trail Blazers yesterday. By no means was the 7-footer coasting on his reputation. "Really, I'm trying to sell them on me, not the other way around," the center from Ohio State said after a vigorous solo workout. Oden is the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick by the Trail Blazers June 28, but the team is also working out Texas forward Kevin Durant tomorrow. "What came out is that he's a really good person who cared about how he did in the workout," said Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard . . . The Trail Blazers also introduced former Nike executive Larry Miller as team president.
As far as Minnesota Timberwolves boss Kevin McHale is concerned, any trade talk involving Kevin Garnett has been just that -- talk. "Who knows what's going to happen?" McHale said after the Timberwolves worked out draft prospects Jeff Green and Al Horford. "But we're not out there actively shopping Kevin Garnett around the NBA. I can tell you that much." . . . Golden State Warriors forward Stephen Jackson pleaded guilty to a felony count of criminal recklessness for firing a gun outside an Indianapolis strip club last fall and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and perform 100 hours of community service . . . Top-seeded Jankovic also advanced. Men's top seed Tommy Robredo and No. 2 Ivan Ljubicic moved on . . . Guillermo Coria settled his lawsuit against a New Jersey-based vitamin maker he blamed for a positive steroid test that cost him millions in earnings. Terms between Coria and Universal Nutrition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which had denied making tainted pills, were not disclosed.
Hockey Hurricanes, Walker not parting ways
Scott Walker, a rugged right wing who could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], will return to Carolina after agreeing to a three-year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], $7.5 million contract with the Hurricanes. "I like my role, but I also like the way the team is set up for the future, and I think we have a chance to win," said Walker, who had 21 goals and 30 assists last season . . . Center Derek Roy was one of five players retained by the Buffalo Sabres after they were issued qualifying offers. Also issued offers were forwards Daniel Paille and Andrew Peters and defenseman Nathan Paetsch. The Sabres also confirmed forward Thomas Vanek was issued an offer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a move previously announced by his agent.\

All three judges scored the fight 97-93 for Manfredo, who came to prominence on the boxing reality television show "The Contender." Manfredo, from Providence, had problems getting anything going against Banks. Manfredo stunned his opponent a couple of times in the early rounds by faking to his left and coming over the top with a right hand.
