Oxford and Cambridge University are amongst the best known in the world. Americans generally speaking can be disparaging about these two universities but you can't deny their history as a seat of learning.

The two university cities [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] are pretty well equidistant from London, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] with the city of Oxford being the more ancient of the two. Most tourists are attracted to Oxford by the University first founded in around 1167.

There is no such thing as a university campus which suprises most Americans. Oxford University consists of over thirty colleges, and all of them were founded before the sixteenth century. It is the architecture of these ancient colleges that gives Oxford its distinctive skyline.

The whole effect is amazing to see, and are [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] what makes Oxford such a delight to visit. Walking round Oxford is the best way to see the colleges, and escorted walks are a must because they will be led by a knowledgeable member of the University teaching staff. It is quite amazing the things you will learn about Oxford just by listening to them.

It's interesting to find out that twenty British Prime Ministers studied here. Add to that [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] names to conjure with down through the centuries such as Lewis Carroll, Graham Greene, even President Bill Clinton in more recent times. Don't leave Oxford without visiting the centuries old Bear Inn where students have been carousing [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] for hundreds of years, but you can be sure it will be [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] on your tour itinerary.

You must visit the Ashmolean Museum which is the oldest public museum in the UK. Walk along the River Thames, and just enjoy the views and the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] ambience of the colleges in this wonderful city.

You will find the beautiful city of Cambridge not far from Oxford with a university that was founded only 40 years after its rival. It is very definitely one of the most prestigious universities in Europe and of course one of the oldest. The city is full of narrow lanes, and tiny bookshops, some so full of books as to be a cluttered treasure trove.

The University has sixteen medieval colleges, out of a total of thirty one. Some of the famous sons and daughters of Cambridge [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] include John Milton, and Stephen Hawking. Cambridge has also seen [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the likes of Oliver Cromwell, Darwin, and Isaac Newton as residents.

There are few more beautiful sights than that of King's College from the banks of the River Cam; begun by King Henry [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] V111 when he was a teenager, it is jaw droppingly beautiful. Another sight not to be missed is the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Fitzwilliam Museum one of the UK's oldest public museums. A must do is to hire a punt on the River Cam to enjoy views not available anywhere else.

Don't make the mistake of going to the UK without going to these two wonderful cities. Not many get the chance to study here, at least make sure you visit to soak up [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the atmosphere.
