Michael Moore film says capitalism must die
Twenty years after you have his start in the Toronto film festival with "Roger Me," Michael Moore was back Sunday night among 1,400 cheering friends for the first public screening of "Capitalism: An appreciation Story," undoubtedly destined to be his most controversial film yet. Even the protesters out front were in the camp.
This time around the documentary filmmaker target isn't a corporate titan, like Automobile CEO Roger Smith was all those years back, but an idea -- capitalism -- so American regarding appear to be the country would cease to exist without it. And so, by extension,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Moore target is us, a population that his film argues has come to confuse capitalism with democracy, which is the something he believes had the ability to save us.
As good a filmmaker as Moore is, he pretty good like a stand-up either. The film was screening within the city historic Elgin Theatre within the Visa Screening Room. Right after taking the stage in the now familiar trucker hat, suit and running sneakers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he crooned sotto voce "Welcome towards the Visa screening room, Visa." before telling concerning the nervous calls he got asking if there was anything about the credit card giant in his film.
But it was, typically, not a night for laughs because the film opened with a health warning -- individuals with heart disease, or young children, should leave immediately. Although it drew laughs, they weren hearty ones because the subtext was clear, this was likely to be very difficult ride.
The documentary is in its own way an activist love letter for a different time, one he feels passionately we should reclaim, because he intercuts their own family home movies of vacations -- "me here on Wall St." along with a shot of the 8 or 9 years old Moore -- or a recent walk with his now 88-year-old father to the empty lot that when was a massive spark-plug factory where his dad worked for pretty much 40 years. His father had made the trip from Flint, Moore told us,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and was in the crowd.
Moore confrontational provocations,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which he first introduced us to in his relentless hounding of GM Smith to have an interview to explain the massive downsizing of the Flint, Mich. operation those years ago, now feels familiar. It feels softened within this film, perhaps because he felt the need to spend a lot time in setting the table for his message. He takes us to Rome, having a textbook explanation of why the empire collapsed juxtaposed with images that remind us how relevant those test is today,
There are heartbreaking vignettes of foreclosed families. An interview having a guy whose company is known as "Condo Vultures," and is in the business of purchasing up and reselling foreclosed properties. Because he explains it the only thing what separates him from the real vulture is the fact that he doesn vomit on himself (his concept of a joke).
Moore walks us through the so-called "dead peasants" life policies that companies remove on the employees -- not for that families, but to enrich corporate coffers. There are charts and graphs and news clips explaining how Wall Street took over Washington, the way the disparity between rich and poor grew so wide. And there is the trademark Moore confrontational fun: the filmmaker wrapping Citibank, Chase, et al. in yellow crime scene tape, attempting to make a citizen arrest of the boards of directors.
The film gets tougher and tougher as the story goes together with his hometown priests, amongst others, denouncing capitalism as not just a failed economic system, but being an evil that must definitely be eradicated. I saw one woman slip out at this time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the remaining audience seemed mesmerized, barely moving except for the sporadic ironic bit that allowed us a second of comic relief.
After a standing, cheering ovation because the final credits rolled,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], over fifty percent the crowd stayed for the Q after. The questions, unlike Moore,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], were not confrontational. Did he have hope that Obama would bring change? He did, though he not giving him forever to get it done. Was he angry over the deification of President Regan? He was.
After which it was over, unless you wanted to join the nearby worker protest -- there were directions.

Is Michael Moore pro- tyranny? Capitalism must die? What about we redistribute his profits?Tyranny like slavery should be abolished! Tyranny in most its forms is evil. It enslaves humans, we abolished slavery, we must abolish tyranny. That is the greatest legacy we are able to leave generations to come. Regardless of the quality of anyone "art", it is immoral for artists to aid totalitarian regimes. Join the Facebook movement, "End Tyranny Worldwide". Lets trully change the world,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whether it is Cuba, North Korea or Iran. Freedom for all mankind. Give tyour profits to this cause,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Mr.
