Recently publicized by Ethiopian news, the government removed a price cap on basic food items. This has caused a dramatic increase in the prices of common produce. Civilians may find it difficult to buy [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] necessary items, and many are going without.
The government has formally levied the blame on the continuously rising cost of produce internationally. Experts argue that it is actually the government induced price caps that are the cause of inflation. Meat, bread, oil, and other items have nearly doubled in price. Many people are unable to pay the prices for essential food items.
Many experts continue to argue the issue. The excessive printing of money has led to inflation in the past, an action the Ethiopian government is currently repeating. The government has [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] also been directing [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] funds to pay for infrastructure projects. Many new roads and buildings [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] have been constructed to the dismay of the hungry populous. Some citizens [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] are beginning to cry foul play.
There is a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] history of citizens needing government food aide. Before the removal of the price cap over 3.2 million citizens relied on the government for food aide. Inflation is now at a historic high of thirty-five percent, a significant increase from the past years. It is estimated that the inflation coupled with no government intervention will leave over 5 million [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] civilians dependent on government supplied food aide. Civilians are already displaying discontent with the high costs.
Though typically a passive country, Ethiopians voiced their discontent by organizing a text-messaging campaign designed to boycott meat in an effort to forcibly drive down market prices. This boycott has severely injured many [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] merchant's customer base, but few can actually afford to lower the steep prices. Merchants and citizens are unable to reach a mutual agreement.
The civilians and the merchant parties are being detrimentally effected by the significant increases in [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] prices. With citizens unable to pay the inflated cost of food, merchants are unable to turn a profit. The lack of profit [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] leaves the merchants unable to lower the prices of the items to a more reasonable rate. Continuous food shortage and government caused inflation has made it impossible for either side to reach a bargain.
With much going on and many sources of Ethiopian news, it is obvious that [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] food products are the main concern. Droughts and inflation have done little to ease the growing issue of the cost of food supplies. With little help from the government, many citizens will be budgeting to afford food and supplies or they will be going without. More will be added to [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the number of civilians on the list for government aide. Read more about: ethiopian news
