I'm the kind of person who chokes up a bit when I must part with objects I use every day. When the clutter has become overwhelming and the time comes to say goodbye to a wallet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a watch or an old pair of sneakers I wore while running a marathon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I feel a sense of loss. Sometimes I say goodbye out loud or even take a picture of the object. The higher cost is a small price to pay for the peace of mind I now have.

But what if you went to a different desk everyday or only wore generic clothes delivered washed from some common pool? You would feel a sense of loss. A smaller life in some regard. I suspect the closest the non-nerdy get to the feeling I have right now is losing a cellphone.
As the world becomes more part of the cloud,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], those of us that did engineer our own computing infrastructure are saying goodbye to a hands-on era. I suppose that's what is really bothering me. I'm no longer controlling the knobs and dials of my server as I once did. There is no thrill to getting it working and keeping it going.
