Columbus Zoo Uses Camera To Animals Sneaking Into Zoo
I have enjoyed the Columbus Zoo, and have not historically taken a situation from the involuntary incarceration of the animals there. However, the euthanization of those "intruders" who are native to the region is inexcusable for a corporation that presents itself to clients and donors as an animal friendly refuge. Spare me the justifications, I'm not sold. This is a shameful revelation of the practices of our beloved (and highly funded) Zoo.
basically remember right the wallabies all died because the ate hay that stray cats urinated on,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. if a zoo handler handled the hay before they feed them they must be fired cat piss really stinks.

Obviously I need to clarify my comment in this story. I did not say that the zoo euthanizes "intruders" - we don't. I said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which quote is close to verbatim, "We will either take it and release it some(where) far in the zoo or if required we may need to euthanize it,". struggling with distemper, we would euthanize it. When i pointed out in the story, although it is not included here it might have been included about the broadcast, for quite some time we vaccinated and neutered the racoons we trapped and then released them back on grounds. This way we had a resident population that didn't carry disease, did not reproduce, and did not allow non-treated raccoons into their territory. All the individuals who work on the zoo do so simply because they worry about animals. That attitude, most importantly others, influences every policy decision we make for the zoo, every day, including how we manage native wildlife that winds up on zoo grounds.
The answer is "no" - it's illegal to kill wild cats in Columbus. Now explain this logic to me - you cannot kill the, or catch and relocate. BUT, you can catch them and have them spayed/neutered and release it well in which you found them.
The reason for catching, spaying/neutering and then releasing into the population,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is so that eventually the feral (wild) cat population will die out naturally. Shelters were becoming overwhelmed with feral cats and kittens being dropped off, plus they were having to euthanize them in mass quantities,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because most feral cats and/or kittens can't be succesfully adopted out. Nobody (unless they're sadistic)loves to kill of great quantities of animals, nuisance or otherwise. By implementing programs in which people, which have stray/feral cats in their neighborhood, can bring them in and obtain them fixed free of charge or a little fee (which pays for the equipment/time), they are helping to fix the problem without having to euthanize them all. The greater strays and feral cats which are fixed, the less they will re-populate, and also the smaller the city-wide population and problem will become. This has which may work,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and statistics do show that it's employed in Columbus. But since the problem is so large and the programs relatively new,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it's slow in showing a dramatic difference. Most people don't understand that the cat population can exponentially grow if left unchecked. Most female cats might have two litters annually (starting at about 6 months of age),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with 4 to 8 kittens a litter. Then take that approximately 12 kittens a year, and allow them to have 4 to 8 kittens twice a year, and so on. You need to do the math.

coyotes are created to look after feral cats and rabbit population. if only people about the eastside would leave the coyotes alone. Melissa: I applaud you for trying to enlighten the unwashed masses on this web site about TNR. I manage two feral colonies myself and know what difficult it may be. When the tacky comments made on this site about cats were made about dogs, there would be an uproar
