Does your husband need help getting dressed in the morning
An astounding little survey comes to my attention this week: apparently, two thirds of men on their wife or significant other to choose their work clothes for them Half of the blokes surveyed admitted to being physically dressed by their partner,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such as helped to put on their tie When I first heard this, my reaction was the f door! Can it really be true? Plenty of men may indeed be useless artefacts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but do women really have nothing better to do than service the sartorial needs of their partners? Shouldn we be doing something more worthwhile with our time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such as volunteering or learning Danish or poking petits pois up our noses to see how many will fit?
Really. I am very disappointed in us. Well, in half of us. The other half can have a merit badge and a stick of Twix. The rest of you: what are you thinking? But wonder. Is there perhaps a cunning ulterior motive at work here?
My dear friend Kate a feisty feminist of a woman, as it happens her husband in this way,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], laying out outfits each night as if preparing for the funeral home; she does this not to make his life easier,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not to prove herself subservient to his stronger will, not even to patronise him in that passive-aggressive way that so many wives develop over the decades,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but because left to his own devices he would dress like an irredeemable,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unfanciable clod.
This particular fellow has no discernible sense of style and she would far rather step out with a man who at least looks as though he resides in this century, and on this side of reason, than venture abroad with a man dressed like the work-experience boy at a 1980s Job Centre. There definitely method in Kate madness. As with so many things in life, she has surmised that it better to do the work herself and see the results. According to Kate (and,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], from my own experience, I have to agree), most married men look after their clothes in much the same way as they might look after a tomato plant: with an extreme lack of interest.
There only one section of the wardrobe that really seems to grab their attention: the Kit Zone (you have to say this in a big, booming voice,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as if announcing a prize wrestler as he enters the ring).
My own husband actually hangs up his Rapha cycling jerseys. The Arcteryx jackets somehow find their own way to the pegs under the stairs. The bike shoes are paired and placed ready for the next outing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], without me having to so much as give them a stern look. Everything else seems to reside in a swirling pit of disorder, to be found exactly wherever it was last taken off.
Mind you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even Kate makes mistakes. A few weeks back, fired up with fashionable thoughts and seeking to extend the catchment area of her man limited wardrobe,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she bought him a chunky cardigan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like the one David Beckham wears to take his boys out for froyo and a kick-about in the park. Becks looks a complete dreamboat in his at once capable and warm, like an off-duty fireman.
In his cardie, Kate husband looks like a librarian who just been made redundant. Which goes to show, there many a slip in men fashion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], forever teetering as it does between the perils of drear grey boredom and extreme high fashion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where all is Buddy Holly specs, sockless plimsolls and zip-ankled cropped trousers in neon-green elephant cord. No wonder so many men need a helping hand.相关的主题文章:
