Kolkata,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Aug 12: In a mindless act of violence,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unidentified miscreants threw acid on a ladies compartment of a suburban train injuring as many as ten women.
The incident took place at around 7:35 pm on Wednesday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Aug 11 when Sealdah-Baruipur local train was proceeding towards the Dhakuria railway station,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], government railway police (GRP) officials said.
The officials informed that acid was hurled at the ladies compartment from the right side of the train after it had passed through Ballygunge railway station,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Shahnawaz Begum of Mallickpur area of Baruipur,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one of the injured,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], told a news agency that after the acid hit the compartment was filled with smoke. She recalled feeling burning sensation on her skin.
Two of the ten women have sustained grievous injuries,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Eastern Railway sources,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], said that only seven women were injured.
