Yes, even the brand known for its sensible, affordable shoes is trying to glam up, while some luxury fashion brands, aware of their customers' changing needs,[url=http://cheapsoccercleatswithfreeshipping.webmium.com/][b]http://cheapsoccercleatswithfreeshipping.webmium.com/[/b][/url], no longer flee from the once-scorned label of "comfort" shoes.
"Comfort used to be very granola crunchy,[url=http://duveticaoutletcanada.halod.com/][b]duvetica jackets canada online outlet[/b][/url], brown, bulky but it's become much more feminine," says Barbara Schneider-Levy, senior editor of the trade magazine Footwear News. Now she presides over a $30 million-a-year business, built on the notion that plenty of women will think nothing of forking over nearly $500 for heels that won't hurt. "We've seen tremendous growth at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom 25% to 50% over last year."
Boutique retailers say they're seeing similar patterns.
"All my customers are talking about how their feet are killing them," says Jennifer Stanley, co-owner with husband Mark of Well Heeled Comfort Fashion Footwear of Studio City,[url=http://duveticaoutletcanada.halod.com/][b]duvetica jackets canada online[/b][/url], Calif., which has clients ranging from podiatry patients to the wardrobe keepers of nearby TV studios. "I had a customer (recently), she spent $400 on a Thierry Rabotin and the price didn't matter because her feet are so bad."
At the other end of the price spectrum, Aerosoles established itself as a comfort brand back in 1987, but now its new design team is pushing the fashion quotient even harder, including shoes with heels as high as 3 inches for prices well under $100. The result: a 15% increase in sales in 2005 and an expected 14% increase in 2006, says Karen Sadick,[url=http://duveticaitaly.albirank.net/][b]Duvetica italy[/b][/url], merchandising vice president.
"We have double-digit sales figures for some styles," Sadick says. "Women are demanding to look great and feel great."
Meanwhile, Cole Haan, the mid-luxury brand, hired Thompson, a former Nike executive, who promptly designed a line of dress shoes incorporating Nike Air technology. "Consumers are very savvy and aware, and compromise is not in their vocabulary, particularly at our price points," Thompson says.
The Dress Air line, launched in 2006,[url=http://duveticaoutletcanada.halod.com/][b]http://duveticaoutletcanada.halod.com/[/b][/url], has been so successful that Cole Haan is expanding to 14 designs for spring/summer, plus three carryover styles from fall. They range in price from a low of $150 for a clog to about $485 for a boot, all with 3 heels.
But comfortable or not,[url=http://merrellshoesonsaleformen.blogspot.com/][b]http://merrellshoesonsaleformen.blogspot.com/[/b][/url], the shoe still has to be alluring. "No one will look at it unless it's sexy and makes the leg look great," Thompson says.

He cites Prada and Chanel, who make comfortable, high-style shoes with heels of 2 or 3 inches rather than 4.
