Andrew's final hours
THE DISTRAUGHT parents of Aspatria teenager Andrew Buchanan, who was found dead in Whitehaven Marina last November, will never know how or why their son died.
West Cumbria coroner John Taylor said there were so many unanswered questions arising from yesterday's inquest that he had no alternative but to record an open verdict. They said it didn't matter about the verdict and paid tribute to their wonderful son, described as "a people person who lived life to the full".
An extensive search was launched when he failed to return home the next day. His body was discovered on November 3, about four metres down in the water underneath a boat in the marina. His shoes were found placed together on top of another boat. The inquest heard that Andrew and his school friends had been at a party at the rugby league club before making their way, via some bars, to the Park nightclub on the harbourside.
