I?ve been going to the sand dunes for as far back as I can remember. My first real camping trip was to Glamis and I had my first ice cream there before I could even walk. The desert has always felt like a second home to me and riding has always come natural. So certainly accidents and getting hurt are something I know all too well. But a particular trip to Dumont Dunes in November 2001 was more egregious than others.
Holidays, such as Thanksgiving and New Years, are always out of control and what seems to be a non-stop affair. While many are there to enjoy riding, the partying does get a bit out of hand. Countless people are arrested or given tickets daily, but sadly many are killed doudoune moncler homme and injured while out on vacation because of careless drinking and riding.
I?ve never personally been nike air jordan pas cher involved in any kind of drinking incident, and I never hope to be. My 21 years and counting of experience in riding has helped me avoid drunk drivers, but not all accidents. Some are self inflicted; being tired and weak from riding the miles of dunes can make you more prone to injury, but mostly you just never know what you?re coming down on when you get over those hills. Although I have injured my self on more louboutin pas cher than one occasion, I have also been in an accident with another motorist. Some accidents, no giuseppe zanotti pas cher matter how defensive of a rider you are, you can not avoid.
When I was 13, a rider landed on top of me while jumping a dune in Dumont on Thanksgiving Day. My best friend barbour sale and I were out riding around in the smaller area of Dumont known as the Little Dunes. She always made me hollister france lead because she has no sense of direction and is scared of coming over the tops of dunes, not knowing what will be on the other side. I wouldn?t say that I was a fearless rider, but even at thirteen I was very experienced. I ended up getting injured because I was the safeguard, but I?m definitely glad it wasn?t her.
The accident happened in an instant. I had no time to react, no time to even think. I just remember going up the dune and seeing a dirt bike flying over it and then hitting me on the entire left side of my body. After that, all I can remember is waking up to a young man standing over me asking me if I was okay. I couldn?t move, couldn?t talk. I was in shock, and I knew by the look on his face that it was bad. He looked terrified and I felt so bad for him. It was a careless accident that could?ve been avoided, but the kid was no older than me.
After that I lost consciousness, but when I woke again there was a crowd of people standing around me. It was his family and friends that he was riding with. A woman brought a blanket over and laid it on woolrich parka top of me. They started removing my gloves and ripping my tee shirt on the left side to see how seriously I was injured. He had practically landed on top hollister france of my entire body, his foot peg striking me on www.achbanker.com/home.php my left arm and shoulder. They tried to remove my helmet, but I wouldn?t let them. I was scared I had hurt my neck because I still couldn?t feel anything.
By this time my best friend had gone back to camp to get our family. My uncle arrived peuterey first on his dirt bike and I could see how terrified he was. Her dad drove his truck through the dunes and tried getting me up and into it, but I couldn?t. My body was going through so much shock and pain that I couldn?t even stand up with out fainting. They kept rushing me to get up because I needed medical attention, but I just couldn?t do it. It?s unbelievable I didn?t feel anything.
The boy?s voice sounded frightened and all I could hear him asking was if I was going to be alright. After that, I again lost consciousness. I woke up in my motor home with a splint and an inflatable cast on my left arm. We were luckily camped with 2 E.R. Nurses, and they patched me up pretty well. I decided to wait until we were home to go to the hospital.
My bike was thrashed after that. My parents from then on made me wear a chest protector and I was overly cautious for a while after that. Thankfully the rider was not under the influence, but he was jumping with out a spotter. Riding is all about having fun and enjoying yourself, but if you don?t respect the dunes and the other people you share them with, things like this will happen. I hope he walked away from that being a little more cautious.
To all you riders out there, be aware. Make an effort to know your surroundings and only ride at your experience level. Always have a riding buddy, whether it be to go get help, or to be your jumping spotter. This accident didn?t by any means make me love this sport any less. Sometimes hollister these things happen and that?s just the way it goes. It?s moncler outlet going to take a lot more than that to discourage me from riding. I?m a lifer.
