Satisfy the new face from the VW Eos. The convertible coupé has received the new VW family face,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as sported through the Golf, Polo and Touran,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and will make its public debut in the Los Angeles Motor Show on 17 November.
Auto Express caught up with the newcomer at a unique eve of show event, held at VW's design centre in California, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Presented by VW Designer Klaus Bischoff, and VW North America's new British boss,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jonathan Browning, who was previously Chairman of Vauxhall from 2006 to 2008,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the event was used to underline the German firm's growing ambitions for the US market.
"We want to become a volume player in the US,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Browning "and the Eos is really a major factor of this effort."
Browning also outlined plans to build VW's new mid-size saloon, a Passat sized family car shown within this sketch, in the US,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with production starting in spring 2011.
However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], despite the upbeat message about VW's immediate future,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the unveil of the Eos didn't quite go to plan. The firm had employed American Actress Jessica Szohr to assist using the reveal. In her own excitement to exhibit from the car's folding metal roof,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she tried to stow the arrangement with its unique sunroof open - causing it to jam midway through its operation.
An engineer was called,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the problem quickly fixed.
The Eos' new look features a simplified,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], two-bar grille to make the car appear wider along with a little more butch. There is also more chrome detailing along with a set of new headlights which feature a choice of integrated LED daytime running lights.
New bumpers front and rear, a slightly tweaked bonnet and taillights inspired by the new Passat complete the exterior makeover, as the interior gets new trim finishes along with a new controls.
Underneath the freshly reprofiled bonnet is a host of new engine choices,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including 120bhp 1.4-litre TSI and 207bhp 2.0-litre TSI petrol units and a 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI diesel. Now, unless things have dramatically changed from when I visited school 40+ years back, two plus one equalled three,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one plus two equalled three,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], nought plus three equalled three and three plus nought equalled three. I'm able to CLEARLY see not just one, not two but THREE bars about this grille, where does Mr Tom Phillips get TWO from? Am I missing something here?
