Gino Stinziani has a different look at the planet to most of us. "I have a hard time taking a look at anything across the ankle," Canada's head of revolutionary Italian shoe makers, Geox, says from his offices in Mississauga. "When you are in the shoe business, feet are the initial thing you see."
So it's no surprise to hear that does not even his honeymoon in Florence can keep him away from his narrowed vision. "We were travelling the numerous museums and that i was supposed to be looking up at the paintings and sculptures, but my eyes were pointing down at people's feet," the Torontonian continues. "I literally noticed walls."
And it was Milan-based Geox -- which recently opened its first street-front store in Vancouver, on Robson Street, to showcase its sweat-free shoe -- that caught his eye about the 10-day trip. He was so astounded by the organization, whose patented technology prevents water from getting inside, yet allows the shoe to breathe, he launched the organization in Canada four years ago.
While they are no Guccis, Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks ("we're not into haute couture"),[url=http://wheretobuyrogerviviershoes.webmium.com/][b]http://wheretobuyrogerviviershoes.webmium.com/[/b][/url], the Geox range is way from the frumpy style created through the words "comfortable shoes." "When people think of comfort, they believe of ugly shoes," Stinziani, whose parents both hailed from Italy, says. "Italians have it in their blood to not ever make an ugly shoe -- they just can't do it. Our obligation is to marry Italian design, Italian technology and Italian flair for shoemaking."
Stores opened in malls in Toronto and Montreal in the past few years. However with our climate making its shoes a clear choice, what took it such a long time to open in Vancouver? The science behind Geox (the name comes from the term for Earth and X to denote technology) involves a "perforated membrane that provides a second skin" and "manages sweat as well as heat, allows humidity to evaporate and keeps water out and feet dry," according to company literature.
About the celebrity front, these shoes (forecast to market one fourth of a million in Canada this season and nearing 20 million in worldwide total sales over the past decade) also have some less-quoted style fans: Kate Winslet's daughter Mia; Cindy Crawford's Kaia; and Pope Benedict XVI. "Pretty cool having the Pope, hey?" Stinziani suggests. "It's great that Julia roberts as well would choose a pair of Geox for [her son] Maddox to put on."
Obviously Angelina herself will be a good target.
